Daniel vs the 4th

Date: Mon, 9 Jul 2012 10:31:25 -0700
From: eric.feller@myldsmail.net

This week was kind of slow. It seems like everyone in Arionza leaves in the summer at one point. So there's always a good chunk of people missing. Elder Schick and I are "having a good time" just like President instructed us. Sis. Howes loosened the music policy a little bit, (now were allowed to listen to everything that used to be approved when I came out, and the new rule of thumb is anything that can be reasonably played at a baptism) So Elder Schick and I have been jamming out to Christmas music, under our new tag-line, "I'll be home for Christmas"

The 4th of July was a good day. We went outside in the morning and it was actually cool outside. There was a ton of cloud cover and it was about to rain. So we went out in the morning to try and talk to people, and ended up getting soaked in the only rain storm all year. And it only rained for like an hour or so. The streets were so gross, because they never get washed off, so you could see and smell the dirt and oil and stuff going into the drains. Gross.

We also taught a new investigator, AJ, that day. We met him on sunday in the singles ward, when he was there with his ex-girlfriend, and no one has ever seen her before, and she didnt come this week. But he did, by himself. AJ is awesome. He told us he grew up Catholic, but wasnt happy with it, and his girl-friend talked to him a lot about the church. He didnt really know anything about it, and when we were talking about the restoration, and how we have a prophet today, I seemed to really hit him, and he said, "I did not know that." It was a good lesson. And like I said, he was at church this week. He came by himself, and sat down before we could get a seat. We talked to some guys in the ward and they went and talked to him. He was really made a part of the group right away. One of them is coming to our lesson this week.

We met with the Boccella's again on friday. They are back from vacation, and doing great. We had to eat two dinners that day becase we had lessons at both of them. But we lived... We talked to them about the Priesthood, mostly towards Al. He told us he's going with the flow right now untill he gets used to everything in the church. He has in own  hymn book now so he can sing the songs in "Elder's Corner" with everyone else. Haha.

On sunday we taught Lance the plan of salvation. He is making progress. He says he starting to believe the things he learns more, which is good. He struggles with praying, and receiving answers to prayers. He has never really prayed before this time in his life and things are moving quick for him. He agreed to be baptized on the 11th of August if he's ready by then.

I'll be home for Christmas,
Love,
Elder Feller

Daniel vs Easter

Date: Mon, 9 Apr 2012 10:55:58 -0700
From: eric.feller@myldsmail.net

We had a pretty busy week here. Not the busy I would like, but it was still an over all good week.

Tuesday we had a bunch of appointments all in a row, but the last one cancelled. We taught Carly about the Plan of Salvation. It went really well. She has been reading a ton from the Book of Mormon. She had a few pages of notes just from the introduction and the first few chapters. She's really interested, and we can only hope her parents wont be a problem. Then we taught Alex and asked him to pray about a day to be baptized. We've had to be really careful because it seems like his mom is looking for any excuse to try and stop him, even though she's a member herself. Just really less active... So we'll follow up on that tomorrow. Oh also, on Tuesday I returned an iPhone that I had found on the road a few weeks ago. She was really grateful and gave us some candy. Unfortunately though, I don't have an iPhone anymore.... haha. Pictures below.

Wednesday we had interviews all day. President always does the Zone Leaders last and talks to us about all the people in the zone. It was pretty cool. My personal interview was really short. But then he talked to both of us about most of the people in the zone. It was really cool to hear how well President knows everyone, even though its hard to feel like he really knows you when you dont know him that well, especially when you're young in the mission. Apparently he told Elder Krueger that he was going to get more responsibility soon. Which is good for him. I cant believe I trained him 8 months ago! But no other really big news. Oh, President has asked Elder Schick to start working on the Indian Reservation that is just south of his area. So that's pretty cool. He's really excited about it.

Thursday and Friday we spent all day in Leadership trainings. It was good, but long. Thursday we were in one of my old areas, which was kinda cool. I don't really miss the Mesa Zone... But it was a really good meeting. They paired us off with people we've never been around and we taught together. It was really fun. We talked a lot about making commitments and following up. Friday was good too. In the morning we spent a lot of time in a zone leader group, talking about specific questions. Sometimes I really hate all zone leader meetings because there are too many chiefs and not enough indians. A lot of the zone leaders think they're really hot stuff... Its annoying. And I really believe it causes so many problems in zones. You cant just be the missionary police and pretend like you were never where the missionaries are, you have to be their friends and make sure they know that you're on of them. I tried to bring that up, but we didnt have time. They were too busy  arguing about something stupid. In the afternoon we had a big question and answer, and the questions were actually good this time. I won a golden chocolate egg with one of my answers. Basically along the same line as what I said earlier. People were getting into this question and the answer there were arguing about was way off. They were talking about how we need to be "Preach My Gospel" missionaries and help people become converted to the book Preach My Gospel. I brought up how I don't want to be converted to the book, I want to be converted to the gospel because that's what the book Preach My Gospel, and Elder Bednar's talk "Becoming a Preach My Gospel Missionary" is about. So I got a golden Easter egg. With these stories, I'm not trying to say that I'm more intelligent than a lot of other people, but I mean... come on.

Friday night we taught Danielle. She really wanted to be baptized. I'm not used to that. She really threw herself out there... We didn't really know how to react so it was kind of awkward for a second. But we put her on date for the 28th of April. The lesson went really well, but I felt like I wasn't entirely spiritually prepared for it.

Sunday was easter! We had church all day. And our dinner almost cancelled on us because their nephew almost died in a skateboarding accident... It was kind of awkward, I felt really bad. But it worked out great and we had a good time. We were going home after to do our weekly planning because we didn't get to do it on Friday or Saturday and we got a call from a family asking us to come over and teach their niece's boyfriend right away. I was kind of annoyed because I expected the guy to just be some thug who didn't really want to listen to us, but couldn't escape this family. I repented. Carlos was awesome. We had a really spiritual lesson with him, and he is really looking for answers and peace in life. We taught him outside by candlelight which was kind of cool. I didn't recognize the family, I think they go to a Spanish ward somewhere. But it was awesome. Too bad he lives in Mesa, and we probably wont meet with him again. But he will be taught. So its all good.

Love,
Daniel

Daniel vs crunching time!

Date: Mon, 20 Feb 2012 10:56:23 -0700
From: eric.feller@myldsmail.net

We have had a pretty good week. Sorry I dont have a lot of time to write today, its Presidents Day and we're using the members who's guest house we live in computer. Arizona is beautiful right now. And the work is going really well. We have a lot going on this week. On Valentines day we had a baptisimal interview for our investigator Venice. She's 9, and unfortunately it looks like her dad isnt going to be able to baptize her... But everything is still on track for this weekend. Its weird because I've hardley even taught her... We also went to the visitors center this week with two of our investigators Isaiah and Marquon. They're friends of a priest in one of our wards. It was pretty cool, as the visitors center always is.

We ate dinner with our High Councelor over Missionary work, Brother Joseph Feilding McConkie (He has quite the name... He's related to Joseph Fielding Smith and Bruce R. McConkie) and taught a lesson at their house to their friend Danielle, who is going to be in the singles ward. It went really well. She is pretty cool. She's 23, and wants everything the church has to offer, a happy family, and everything. She's pretty mature, and has good standards. We're trying to get a fellowship from our Singles ward to come to the next lesson with us so she'll come to church. I think if we can get her arround the members of that ward she will progress really fast.

The rest of the week went well. I dont really remember. but Sunday was a crazy day! Elder Howard started feeling sick Saturday night, and then woke up on sunday sick, so he slept and we missed some church. We only made it to Sacrament meeting of our last ward and then we had to run from a lesson to dinner and a lesson, to two more lessons. It was pretty awesome.

I've gotta go, I'll write more next week about the people we're teaching!

Love,

Elder Feller

Advent Christmas Tree

Dear Friends and family,

Inspiration was slow to come this year, but I think I finally have an idea - stolen from a web site of course.  We are making him a giant advent calendar of a paper, cut out Christmas tree.  We are then sending him a different paper ornament to hang every day to count down to Christmas.  If you are interested in sending him an ornament then call, facebook, or email me to let me know.   I will email you back a day # for December 1-24.  I was thinking of one ornament for a couple and one for each child, but let me know if you want to do just one for your family.   I am attaching a word document.  Print out the document and decorate the ornament.  You can use white or colored paper.  Decorate with pictures (school or snap shots), crayons, pens, pencils, stickers, etc. or write a note on the ornament.  What ever you want to do just be sure to sign it so he knows who they are from.  Then cut it out and mail it to him mail in an envelope marked on the back or somewhere with a date # so he knows when to open it and put it on the tree.

No worries if you don't want to or don't have time.  Just let me know.

His address is:

Elder Daniel Feller
923 East Park Ave
Gilbert, AZ 85234

Thanks.

Nat

Hey everyone!
For Christmas this year, we are sending Daniel a big paper Christmas tree, and we thought it'd be fun to have everyone decorate a paper ornament and sent it to him. We want him to open an ornament for each day of December until Christmas (1-24).  If you want to participate let me know so I can assign you a day, and please complete these steps as soon as possible:

1. Open the attached file and pick the shape(s) that you wish to print.
2. Print as many as desired (no more than one per person, please)
3. Decorate (don't forget to sign it)
4. Put in envelope and mail DIRECTLY TO DANIEL. (AWAIT FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS ON THIS PART)
5. On the front of the envelope, write the DATE HE IS TO OPEN THE ENVELOPE (WILL ALSO BE PROVIDED SOON). We will send you your date later! It's an advent calender, so we'll need at least 24 in separate envelopes, so please package yours accordingly. Please get decorating (we're keeping it simple over here - think stickers)

Thanks so much for your help in giving Daniel a merry Christmas!

Love,
Eric, Natalie, and Abbie Feller

Nothing much happened this week. It was pretty typical.

We had a good lesson with an investigator we have named Joey. We talked about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and everything he needs too do. Its really hard for him to progress because he has a felony on record, for something stupid that wasnt really his fault, and its hard for him to get another job because of that. We're going to the visitors center tonight with him and the family fellowshipping him. So we're pretty excited about that.

We FINNALLY met with this other investigator named Seth. He's a live-in boy friend of a less active woman. We started talking to him and felt like he needed the plan of Salvation. It was awesome. He was super interested. He was way into everything we were saying, and it was really interesting because he would really pay attention when we talked about returning to live with God. And so he asked us a question at the end about the commandments, because I had mentioned that a few times. It caught me off guard, but I was able to explain it ok... But He's really awesome.
New years was pretty boring. We went in early, and we were supposed to study. I tried for a little bit, but gave into my roommates and played board games. I won, by the way. But then I stopped and started to clean and write a letter. So it was productive.
Not much else, plus I'm out of time again this week because we're at a members house because the library is closed for new years!
Enjoy the Christmas Pictures!!!

Daniel vs Mother's Day

Date: Mon, 9 May 2011 10:58:31 -0700
From: eric.feller@myldsmail.net

Happy Mothers day everyone!
Last tuesday we taught the Wilkins family. It went super good. The dad is preparing to Baptize his kids, and the kids are super stoked. The bishop said he needed his testimony to grow first and so we focused on that. And in the week before the lesson he read 18 chapters of the Book of Mormon. He had a really spiritual experiance with it too. A scripture about the people being hard hearted hit him really hard. He realized thats what he used to be like and he doesnt want to do that anymore. His faith has increased so much and the family is keeping all their commitments. Next step: Baptism.
The Mongane family is doing really well too. We taught them the Plan of Salvation. She's been reading in the French Book of Mormon we got for them. I guess she understands that best. We have another lesson tonight at 5:00. Cutting into our P-Day. Tottaly worth it. I think she feels like she needs to know everything before she gets baptized. So we're working on all that.
We had a new investigator, Tori Andersen. She's a 16 year old girl that refered herself on Mormon.org. She had been going to mutual with her friend for a while. I have no idea why no one there invited her to church or to be taught.. tsk tsk. But whatever. We had a good lesson, except her born-again christian friend was there, disagreeing with us a little bit. Whatever. She wont be there next time.
OH! I went on Exchanges with my good friend Elder Lesh. My companion in Chandler. We had a really good time. He told me all about what happened the transfer after I left. Here's a funny story: So we were teaching this guy Chris right? The boyfriend on a girl who's parents lived in our ward. Well, things with him were going really good, he was way into it. He would go on Wikipedia whenever someone new got introduced in the Book of Mormon and learn about the character. See what the looked like from the paintings, and go on like that. He even watched the Book of Mormon movie. The old terrible one. After I left, he wanted to get baptized, but his parents freaked out and he didnt want to disapoint them. So then later, his girlfriend dumped him, and so Elder Lesh met with him later at the church. He gave him some advice and they parted ways. I know, this doesn't sound funny at all, I'm getting to that. So, later, Elder Lesh finds out from his mom, who was talking with the mom of Chris's girlfriends family, and Elder Lesh's mom figures out that the reason his girlfriend left him was because her mom kept telling all her daughters that they needed to marry boys like these missionaries who kept coming over to their house, to teach her boyfriend. Pretty funny.
Anyways, We also had lunch with Elder Lesh's investigator. We planned on the lesson first. Well this investigator wanted to prove her sister that this church was right with the bible. We tell her you shouldnt do that you should just read and pray about the book of mormon. Thats not enough for her though, so Elder Lesh and I, but mostly Elder Lesh, take her on this wild goose hunt of scriptures though the whole bible that talk about the apostacy of the early church and the restoration of this church, for 2 hours. The whole time I'm just thinking "Shut up, I just want some food" So we finnaly get back to the point, "you're just going to ahve to read and pray about it" and she's like "ooohhhhh" Such a pain. But it worked. Untill the next time she talked to her sister. Ahh, so frustrating. But whatever.
Well that was my week. Sunday I called my mom for mothers day. That was fun. I hung up and my companion talked for like an hour and a half more.
Thats it!
Love
Elder Feller

Daniel vs Monday P-day

Date: Mon, 25 Apr 2011 10:58:27 -0700
From: eric.feller@myldsmail.net

Happy Monday P-Day! My email comes early this week because P-day has officially been moved to mondays.

We went to the easter pageant two more times since I got here! Thursday and Friday.

Thursday was cool because we went with a part member family that we're not really teaching... But we talked to him on the way home and he agreed to pray about taking the lessons! Hopefully he will. He's whats known as a "Dry-Mormon" - meaning: Not baptised.

Then Friday was crazy! We had to fill the font for another missionary's baptism because he was at some meeting, then we went to dinner then we went biking outside, ran into one of our investigators on his golf cart, he's HOA president so he just rides around, and he said, "yeah I want to go tonight." Its like 6:00 at this point on friday. So the pageant is already packed and we said ok, but we gotta leave right now and we probably wont get good seats. He demanded good seats... So he calls the Mesa Temple Visitors center, talks to an old lady missionary and she says she'll get him a seat because he walks with a crutch. We go home to get in suits and he goes home to get ready. Its like 6:15 and he agrees to be at our house at 6:25. 6:45 rolls around and he pulls up. We finally leave, and then he doesn't have his handicapped parking thing. So we go get that, and get to Mesa, the long way, and then get a parking spot... finally. Its like 7:45 when we come up to the pageant. The pageant starts at 8 and people have been sitting since 4:30. He walks in the visitors center and the Sister says, "you were supposed to be here earlier!" and he explains, and she goes up to the missionary seating and gets him a seat right up front. We had to stand off to the side. But it was so funny. And you really have to understand that this thing is PACKED. Especially the last friday of the show.

Anyways. Saturday was boring. We got anti'd and I got mad. I totally anti'd him back, and then realized what I was doing and then left. I dont like to deal with that. ps, NO ONE tells me that the Bible says that "the bible is the infallible word of God" and doesn't show me where. But I dont want to get into that story.

Sunday was easter! I'm greeting people at church, showing myself off, and then they pull me and my companion up into the ward choir. I hear the song one time, and then go back and sit down. So I had to sing in church. But anyways. Church was fun.
We had easter dinner at our Ward Mission Leader's house. I got to know him. He's awesome, and we're expecting big things for that ward!

... Then I woke up this morning. Monday P-days are weird.

LOVE ELDER FELLER!
We heard if you surround a scorpion with fire it'll stab itself in the head. It just ran into the fire and got burned.

1st Week in Yuma

Date: Thu, 16 Dec 2010 11:04:11 -0700
From: eric.feller@myldsmail.net

So this email is coming late this week... 1 day late because yesterday, my regular p-day, I had to take a very long car ride after transfer meeting.. to YUMA!

So yeah, I dont really know what to say about my last week in chandler.. EXCEPT ELDER LESH AND I BAPTIZED TWO PEOPLE! Rembember how we took over another missionaries area? Well, the first day we had it, a member called us and said he had someone for us to teach. We go by, and teach him a little bit, come back the next day and his friend is there too. They've both been going to church with this family for a while, and we baptized them last saturday. It was super funny. This whole family and these two kids that practically live with them are all so funny and goofy. But it was a great experiance for them to come closer to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. We confirmed them on sunday as well. And then their friends, the family's two brothers, had to bear their testimony in Church and they both were crying, which made Brandon and Zack start to cry and they were all embarased because they're teenagers and it was funny. Then during someone elses talk, she started telling this story about Jesus that someone wrote and Brandon was like, "oh no, here it comes again" and stuck his hands over his face. It was hilarious.

Lets see... what else.

Oh, we also started teaching another person in that same ward, who was dating an older member. He wanted to join the church and marry her. We made sure he was spiritually ready, and then put him on date for baptism for Christmas day. He was so excited. He's a funny guy too. He used to be a marine, then was a bum for 7 years and then got involved with a born-again church that helped him out a lot and he got back on his feet and got a good job in Arizona, and now has a house and two cars. He sees "Mormonism as his next step in his progression, like he's been led here his whole life" hahaha. He's awesome. But I'll miss the baptism now that I'm in Yuma, and not Chandler...

Oh speaking of, my adress in Yuma is:
Elder Daniel Feller
1600 W 12th st #1323
Yuma AZ, 85364

So at least for the next couple weeks you can send christmas packages and letters there, because the mission office is going to be booked! But its ok, whichever still works. And after like.. 4-5 weeks, start sending stuff back to the mission home. I appriciate all the Christmas presents and all the letters and everything I've recieved thus far! It means a lot that people still remember me... because I'm going on 5 months pretty soon!

HOLY CRAP ITS RAINING IN YUMA RIGTH NOW! That means lettuce will be super good this year, because Yuma produces 90% of the worlds lettuce...

Anyways, Uh, not much else happened. I ran into an Anti guy I met a while ago, again. He said Nephi was a murder and a bearer of false witness and God would never tell him to do that. We told him to read the old testament, and gave him some examples of God using the rightous to bring judgement on the wicke.... hahaha. Then he held up his phone that he was looking up bible scriptures on and said, "what do you think this is!?" and Elder Lesh said, "thats a word search." BOOM! We handeled it well but he still left being stupid. I told him if he wouldn't pray and ask God about the Book of Mormon, and not question some 20 year old kids on the street then we can do nothing for him and walked away.

The End!

NEXT WEEK!: Hear more about my adventures in Yuma!

Love Elder Feller
A message I left for some people that we didnt see for a while.

Daniel vs The Mesa Temple

Date: Wed, 8 Dec 2010 11:07:48 -0700
From: eric.feller@myldsmail.net

This week was insane....

We've been super booked every night using tons of miles. We are preparing to Baptize the two teenage guys we met last week, for this Saturday. So I'm really excited about that. I haven't had any baptisms yet because of my area's and stuff. Whitewashing twice and then having a bad trainer doesn't help. But the Lord is blessing me and Elder Lesh a lot, so I'm really excited.

But the craziest thing that happened is that Joram went back to Kenya. He knows the Book of Mormon is true, and he wants to be baptized now, but he didnt have time to do it here, because he wants to have a big party after. hahaha. So he's going back to Kenya like right now. But he's going to find the church there. And here's why. Get ready for the craziest story of the week. We took Joram to the Mesa Temple to see the lights and the visitors center. (Which is AWESOME and a great missionary tool) So we're walking around the inside and Joram's wife sits down and there are these other Kenyan people there, and they start talking, then the all start talking in Swahili and Joram meets all these members of the church that joined in Kenya, including one of his own tribe, who can speak his tribal language. And me and Elder Lesh are like, "yes, this is awesome." Then this white guy walks up and starts talking to them in Swahili. He's a returned missionary who served in... you guessed it- Kenya! So he's talking to all of them, and eventually he starts to tell Joram where the Church building is in Nairobi, the city where he lives. Apparently, its like... in walking distance of his house. like across the street or something. So Elder Lesh and I are freaking out in excitement because now we know he's going to find the church there for sure. And they all celebrate, and Joram's wife gets some new friends from Kenya to help her and support her. And later, Joram tells us that it was no accident that all that happened. And I agree. It was definitely a miracle. Joram is planning on coming back to the United States to get baptized someday.... We told him if that doesn't work out soon he needs to go do it in Kenya. But he wants "his first missionaries to be there" hahaha. So its a way cool story.

But speaking of the Mesa Temple, it is such a beautiful place. We went through it today. And we've been there twice taking investigators to the Christmas lights. If you ever have the opportunity to go there for Christmas, do it! We are going all the time this time of year. And during the Easter Pageant, which is hear is also amazing.

Thats all for this week. Next week we'll have baptism pictures and all sorts of fun things!

Love,

Elder Feller

This week was pretty awesome, to say the least

Date: Wed, 24 Nov 2010 11:02:38 -0700
From: eric.feller@myldsmail.net

On Sunday they asked us to teach Gospel Principles at the last minute. So we teach on Alma 7 and talk about the Atonement a whole lot. We had two investigators there. So after we taught a super spiritual lesson, one of the investigators, who we already talked about Baptism with, came up to us after and said she wants so bad to be baptized, that everything we said made her feel like this is what she needed, and she didn't want to have to wait for her family to come into town anymore, but she still is. So we're probably going to have a baptism in like.. two weeks or so. THEN! The other investigator there, Jorem, the Kenyan guy, was also really touched by the lesson, and that night we took him to Tempe to the Mission President's Fireside. President Howes gave a good talk about how we're all children of our Heavenly Father. After we were making our way through the crowd and Jorem was having a great time meeting all these other missionaries. One of them asked him if he was a member of the Church and he said, "No, but I am becoming one, I just need to be baptized!" and me and Elder Lesh were silently freaking out in excitement. Then the missionary asked him, "Oh, so when are you getting baptized?" and Jorem said, "When Elder Lesh asks me! or would you like to set a day right now?" and the missionary got all excited and was about to do it but Elder Lesh stepped in and said we should confirm with his wife. Then Jorem met President Howes, and we dropped him off at home, while he talked about finding the church when he goes back to Kenya. It was so awesome! Then, the next day we took him to the Mesa Temple Visitors Center, and he got to see the temple, and go around the visitors center, and watch the Joseph Smith movie. Then he was looking at some exhibits and the guy asked if we were the missionaries who wanted to see if we could watch the Joseph Smith movie in Swahili, and when we told him we were he went and got us a Swahili book of Mormon and we gave it to Jorem. He was so happy! We never even thought about getting him one because we totally could have, but his bible is in English and he speaks English just fine. But on the car ride home he didnt say a word, he was just tearing through that Book of Mormon. The next day he told Elder Lesh he knew it was true, but I was on exchanges at the time with the Spanish Missionaries! Which was also super fun. I got to listen to Elder Miguel, a missionary temporarily reassigned to Arizona while waiting for a Visa to Mexico, teach a whole first lesson in Espanol and I followed along! Even though I couldn't add anything. But yeah, the whole day was pretty fun. Its been a good week, and we have 3 Thanksgiving dinners tomorrow! Oh my goodness...

Talk to you later,

Heart, Elder Feller
